Shhh… You might be next.

Life isn’t a horror movie,
It’s so much more worse.
A cross can’t protect you,
Neither can the holy thread.
They might be the very thing that kills,
And we have no idea what heals.

We are all safe and sound,
Until we open our eyes,
To horrors this world hold.
Then, there’s no going back.
Either you zip you mouth, kill your soul,
Or you stand and fight, be killed.

You see all the crimes in the world,
All that you have seen and read,
They not all that bad,
Compared to what’s hidden inside.
The organized crimes by powerful people,
Open your mouth, you’re below the ground.

Male guardianship in Saudi Arabia,
Child prostitution in Asia,
Gun law in the States,
And all the stuff we don’t know yet.
The very people who appear to be fighting it,
Could be the ones keeping it alive.

So, close your eyes tight, don’t open.
You see it and you’re doomed.
So many activists, so many reporters,
Have vanished without a trace.
So, shut your mouth and hide,
Shhh… you might be next.

Unfortunately… It’s scary what’s out there. You try to find it out and you’re dead even before you know. And there are people fighting, giving their lives, disappear, going through torture and everything to being out the facts. 💔

Wow! Shreya, you have penned a powerful poem. This is a heady and difficult topic to address in an artistic form, yet you have done so beautifully. The last stanza closes it so well in its admonishment to be careful. Well done, young lady! ❤❣😘

Just don’t let any of it get overwhelming for you. But, as artists, we can not turn a blind eye to anything in our realm. We must shed our light on all things, good and bad. Stay well and keep those words coming! ❤🥰😘

Hi, After curd and rice mundane but truthful talk, this poem puts you at a higher level of understanding and maturity. Yes, the world is a cruel place and a kind place at the same time. One must guard against becoming a victim to cruelty while contributing to kindness.

Read it thrice…the emotions that you have potrayed in carving this poem is commendable.

This poem could have been put on the screen after the end credits had been rolled for Stanley Kubrick’s last film (made in 1999) Eyes Wide Shut.

It sums up the message of the film and the state of the world quite well.

Of course Kubrick himself conveniently died shortly after making the film.

Every stanza, almost every stanza is so very true. Words cannot describe the truth which is exploding from this poem. A cross cannot protect you…. They might be the only things that kill….. Now I don’t know whether you’re an atheist or not but less violence haven’t been made in the name of religion. And that part , …. So many activists have tried to speak up but have vanished….. Wow…. So true…. Now I’m no good writer, and I don’t have much words to praise this work, but really the thought of this poem resonates so much with my thoughts and experiences. Have seen what power and oppression looks like and I agree 100 percent with the fact that the world is so beautiful untill we open our eyes.
Again, fantastic writing, just fantastic… Keep writing more of such stuff 👍👍🤟🤟🤟
