Stealing Your Family

Poetry, Writer life

I stole your mommy and daddy,
All their love and affection,
Your place in the family,
And all that should have been yours.

I stole your tiny little crib,
And all the onesies bought for you,
All the cute cuddly toys,
I stole everything from you.

The money saved for your education,
It’s for my college now.
Your home, your family, your life,
It’s all mine now.

Dear brother, I never got to meet,
I don’t apologise for stealing,
But I’d rather share everything,
And steal your heart instead.

For NaPoWriMo Day 13, a non-apology for some things you’ve stolen. Before you send me your condolences, this is purely fictional.

    1. Thank you so much Ishaan. And I’m so sorry I didn’t see it earlier. There has been some issue with my notification system. Your appreciation truly means a lot to me. Thank you so much. ❤️

  1. Except for the last part, this could be read as a text from a younger to an older sibling, where the parents failed to realise the older continued needing attention after the birth of the younger one…

  2. It isn’t, yet it happens all too often. Hence it takes two minds to parent siblings. One root tend to the weak in need, and one to keep track of the balance…

  3. You are finding your voice, Shreya! It is a good sign when you must tell your readers your work is fiction. It means your words are connecting on an emotional level and ring true to what your are imagining. The truest art in poetry is connecting with, describing, and sharing feelings and emotions you may have never had, but can readily feel and sense by putting yourself in another’s mind and heart. Well written! You should be proud! ❤

    1. Thank you so much Brad. You keep pushing me forward on this journey with you kind words and appreciation. Much love. ❣️💕💕💞🤗🤗

  4. I’m sure a lot of older siblings feel that way about their younger siblings. I kinda felt that way with my younger siblings. They always got the best of things because of their age. I’m not bitter, promise! :\ Nice poem…

  5. My brother is still stealing so much from me! 😠 Lol, we’re best friends, luckily enough. But, we fight a lot, that’s just inevitable 😂

Haha, I understand and absolutely love this poem, Shreya. ❤️🤗
