Enlighten me, please

Poetry, Writer life

When you said forever,
Did you mean, till death do us part?
Or till your love fades away?

When you said you’ll be there,
Did you mean, always?
Or just when it suits you?

When you said we’ll make it,
Did you really mean it?
Or was it a little white lie?

All the promises we made,
Did you just change?
Or you’ve been a perfect liar all along?Β

Oh baby, please, enlighten me,
As I keep wondering on and on…
Sitting alone in our favorite park

  1. Like Bharath said, forever is a myth. We are just chapters in each other’s stories. Besides, the promises we make are rarely kept.

      1. I’d love it if you read rest of my work. It means so much to me!!! Thanks a million dearβ£οΈπŸ’•πŸ’•

  2. Well said… so many folks fling out promises, then rarely keep them. Better to make none and keep none, than to make tons, and keep none. ;))

      1. Since “Spirited Soul” has recently and kindly “liked” my above comment (coincidentally, just after a comment discussion about promises on my own blog!), I will add that it’s something I learned about twenty-plus years ago, when I first truly tried to practice better “promise (and/or non-promise) practice” myself. πŸ˜ˆπŸ˜‡πŸ’ƒπŸΌπŸΉ

(Sometimes I still fail, especially when it comes to minor things, and/or re: promises I make to myself — but I still try. ;))

Hugs to you, dear WildHeart, and thanks so much for your kind support of my whimsical rhymes. It’s been a pleasure getting to know your lovely poetry in return. πŸ˜πŸ˜šβ£οΈπŸ™πŸ’›

      2. Thank you so much Lia. Indeed promises should be kept. πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ˜˜πŸ˜˜πŸ˜˜πŸ’•β£οΈ

  3. Forever is a beautiful notion to comfort the heart. Sadly, its not practically applied in modern times. Yet its a glorious promise that can captivate anyone’s mind. For the heart always yearns for that kind of emotional security. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful post!

    1. So true Sidharth! Thank you so much for reading this and sharing your insights on it. It’s so sad that nothing is permanent these days! πŸ’”β£οΈ

      1. Nah nonsense from my boss is something that tragically seems like a permanent phenomenon. πŸ˜‚ So there are things that are permanent… Whether they may be desirable or not, that’s something which is debatable though. πŸ˜…
